I'll be home for Christmas

So, it's that time of year again and Super Kawaii Mama wants to know what our ideal vintage Christmas would consist of. I fancy myself a romantic, awaiting holidays with the same zeal as when I was a little 'un. But sometimes we're disappointed and the magic of childhood is difficult to capture again, so I like to fantasize sometimes that I live in a Norman Rockwell painting. I allow myself to get excited for Christmas when December rolls around and I always will, because even though I'm likely to be disappointed again, isn't hope what really keeps our inner child alive? Not presents, not cookies, not footie pajamas. But hope and excitement that just won't die.

My perfect vintage christmas would start by waking up nice and cozy in bed with the smell of cinnamon buns, hot chocolate, and snow in the air. Presents are exchanged and tinsel sticks to our bottoms as we sit around the tree fighting to get our presents first. The fact that we're adults doesn't keep us from sledding down big hills and the fact that we feel like kids doesn't deter us from kissing our loves under the falling snow. Ham dinners, crackling fires, and perfect black and white movies go by in a whirl as Bing Crosby sings us into another Christmas reverie.

Beautiful clothes are worth being scared?

Really. They are. Lately I've found myself watching scary and/or creepy-ish movies with the sole purpose of seeing some really gorgeous clothes...ok I do love scary movies anyways but that's not the point =p

First up was The Changeling, the true story of a woman whose son goes missing, only to have the LAPD bring her a different boy and tell her it's her son. This movie can be infuriating and if you've seen it you know why, but the ending is 90% intensely satisfying. I wasn't at all interested in the story before I watched it, I just knew I wanted to see all the cloche hats and other flapper accoutrement...but the movie was AMAZING. I was so riveted and couldn't take my eyes off of the tv.

Second one up was (drumroll please).......

The movie that will be haunting my dreams for the next 33 years (hint hint, aren't I sly.) I am seriously terrified of Esther, but getting better. I loved Esther's whole old-world look: the coats, dresses, tights, velvet ribbons even if they did hide some nasty scars. Someday I want a daughter who dresses like this, though I will be making sure she is mentally fit and actually a child first. Ya know, just to be sure.

The moral of the story kids is that you should scare yourself witless on a regular basis, because pretty clothes are worth it. Oh, and that super long break between posts? Let's just pretend that never happened. Tata for now.

Dollface is being a pansy

And I'm finding it really hard to keep seeing the bright side, especially when it always turns its cheek. And I don't think today is a good day, to start admitting that I think I may have failed, but I'm looking at the way things are moving, and something's out of line. So I'm hoping that it's all a setup, the punch line is going to show: it's when the universe throws a fire my way.

Then I will burn every bad memory I've ever had the displeasure to know.

"Woooooo Rosa!"

I would have loved to do an outfit photo today, yet I am awaiting a very lovely cloche hat that's coming in the mail and I just could not wait any longer to discuss the one and only Mr. Samuel James. He's an amazing bluesman with a soulful voice and great style. And tell me the truth, have you ever met a bluesman with tattoos? I just love it. I was turned on to him by a certain someone special who happens to be friends with him and is an even bigger fan. My absolute favorite song is "Baby-Doll" but I also love the instrumental "Wooooo Rosa!" which is named after Sam's adorable belly-dancing girlfriend, Rosa. Listen, enjoy, repeat.

You are my favorite bird and when you sing, I really do wish that you'd wear my ring

After being so inspired by so many lovely young ladies, I have decided I would love the chance to maybe inspire someone. I suppose I'm paying it forward. So let me introduce myself...my name is Michelle. I like long walks on the beach, pina coladas, and the Mighty Boosh. I like you. I like your mom. I love the following: the 1920's-50's, sweater clips, cardigans, old record players, Zelda Fitzgerald, the poetry of Lord Byron, punk rock, and waking up every day. I fancy myself an old lady on the inside. I don't currently do much but I will have a very fun job at Kohl's soon so I swear on Elvis I will post some pretty little outfit photos =]. It's pretty super late right now and well, the Golden Girls just came on so I have to be off! Toodles loves, I can't wait to know you.
